Partnerships for Affordable Housing

The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE's) Partnerships for Affordable Housing Program helps providers of housing for low- and moderate-income families make residential dwellings more affordable through improvements in energy use and cost efficiency. It works through voluntary partnerships that bring together leaders from the housing development and financing industry, government, and non-profit associations at both national and local levels. Partnerships can be led by public agencies and authorities, local and state governments, non-profit organizations, or private firms interested in reducing the operating cost of low- and moderate-income housing while maintaining occupant comfort, housing quality, environmental performance, and purchase
price. DOE provides guidance and technical assistance both directly and through supporting organizations to help partners plan and carry out their activities. Assistance services and materials focus on a whole-building approach addressing design and renovation options, bid specifications, financial management, and improved maintenance practices.

The Buildings Design and Performance Program is providing the primary support to DOE for managing the program and coordinating assistance to local housing partnerships. The Program is working directly on numerous partnerships and overseeing the work of several affordable housing organizations supporting the program.
